Four Seasons to offer volunteer training classes

Four Seasons, a local provider of end-of-life care services, will be offering its volunteer training classes to all those who would like to learn about, or enhance, care-giving skills. The information provided is useful in any setting, from homes to facilities. Attendance does not require a commitment to become a Four Seasons volunteer. A wide array of volunteer opportunities will be covered, and all areas of interest are welcome.


An orientation class (required for all volunteer positions) will be offered at the Highlands-Cashiers Hospital Campus (exact location TBD):

Orientation (for all volunteers)- Tuesday, May 17th 1:00-4:30

Patient Care Training – Wednesday, May 18th 9:00-4:00

Thursday, May 19th 9:00-4:00

FOUR SEASONS TO CELEBRATE LIFE WITH UPCOMING EVENT

Tickets are available now for the Four Seasons “Seasons of Life Soiree 2011,” which will be held Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 6:30 pm at the Asheville Hilton in Biltmore Park. The event is presented by Park Ridge Health, sponsored by Shuler Funeral Home, and sustained by many other local sponsors and individuals.

 


Tickets are $75 per person for an evening of fine food, auction, and entertainment by a local jazz trio. Complimentary wine will be provided by the Hilton at Biltmore Park. Event attendees will have the option to honor or memorialize a loved one through a special remembrance opportunity.


Some of the items included in the silent auction at the event are a chance to take home an adorable puppy from Blue Ridge Humane Society, a green amethyst necklace from Shelley’s in Hendersonville, a getaway weekend to Atlanta, several golf packages, art work, beautiful home and garden items, flowers by Blossom’s at Biltmore Park, and complimentary wine provided by the Hilton at Biltmore Park

FOUR SEASONS OPENS TWO NEW THRIFT STORES IN THE BILTMORE SQUARE MALL - Asheville, NC

On Tuesday, April 5, Four Seasons opened two new thrift stores in the Biltmore Square Mall. The specialty thrift stores are in addition to the Hospice Home Store at 215 N. Main Street in Downtown Hendersonville. The Biltmore Square Mall stores will include a small used book store, which will sell antique prints and media in addition to used books. There will also be a used clothing store, which will also sell hats, scarves, belts, ties and other clothing accessories.
Hours of operation for the new stores are Monday through Saturday, 10 am to 8 pm and Sunday 12:30 pm to 6:00 pm.

FOUR SEASONS –WNC BRANCH TO HOLD BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT GROUP IN HIGHLANDS

  • Grief support group begins April 15 and runs for 10 weeks.
  • It will meet from 4:30 PM – 6 PM at the Four Seasons WNC Branch office in Highlands at the Highlands/Cashiers Hospital, 171 Hospital Drive, Suite 600. The group is open to all those who have lost a loved one and would benefit from a grief support group.

• “Am I going crazy?” -- What feelings are normal during grief?

• What is grief, bereavement and mourning? How long does this last?

• Coping styles for grief and loss

FOUR SEASONS OFFERS NEW COMPLEMENTARY AND ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE PROGRAM

Chris Comeaux, president and CEO of Four Seasons, announced today that Brenda Charbonneau RN, BSN, UZIT has been named CAM RN practitioner for the new Four Seasons Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) program. This program offers a variety of gentle, comforting therapies that either complement or serve as an alternative to conventional medical therapies.
Charbonneau joined Four Seasons in 2006 as a RN case manager working in various settings, including nursing home, ALF, home care, and local hospitals. In 2009, she completed Donna Karan’s Urban Zen Integrative Therapist (UZIT) program in New York City. The 12-month 500-hour advanced UZIT certification program consists of yoga therapy: (including in-bed, w/c yoga postures and movements, restorative poses, breath awareness, and meditation), aromatherapy to help reduce symptoms and promote healing, reiki, current theories and practices on holistic nutrition, and education into the subject of death and dying. Charbonneau will address key patient symptoms of PANIC- Pain, Anxiety, Nausea, Insomnia, Constipation, and Confusion. Charbonneau’s focus includes not only assisting in patient care, but educating and instructing self-care techniques for caregivers and clinicians. Charbonneau is currently a member of the Holistic Nursing Association.

FOUR SEASONS NAMES NEW HEART SONGS COORDINATOR

Chris Comeaux, president and CEO of Four Seasons, announced today that Susan T. Bumgarner has been named Heart Songs Coordinator, Children and Teen Bereavement Counselor. This unique program provides help for children in surviving loss and grief. Losing a loved one to death is a common but difficult experience in a child's life. HEART SONGS is a children's grief support program developed by Four Seasons.
Bumgarner brings to her position over 19 years of experience in bereavement counseling with children and teens, spiritual care and leadership. She graduated from Belmont University in Nashville, TN with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1984. In 1987, Bumgarner earned her Master of Arts in Religious Education with an emphasis in counseling. She worked with the state of North Carolina to counsel adjudicated youth for two years before beginning her work in clinical pastoral education. Additionally, she worked for over 12 years as a hospital chaplain in the Raleigh, NC area with an emphasis in pediatric chaplaincy. Bumgarner joined the staff of Four Seasons in December, 2010 as a PRN chaplain before taking over the position as Heart Songs Coordinator in March 2011. She serves on the board of directors for the North Carolina Chaplains association as the Education chair, and also serves her community as a volunteer chaplain with the Black Mountain police corp. and leading grief support groups.
